PU marks World Olympic Day


LAHORE: (Wednesday, June 18, 2025): In connection with World Olympic Day, Punjab University Department of Sports organized a cycling and skating rally from the Vice Chancellor’s Office to the Sports Gymnasium. On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, Director Sports Dr Shabbir Sarwar, Secretary Pakistan Cycling Federation Moazzam Khan, Ahmar Malik from Pakistan Olympic Association, faculty members, students and children were present. PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali participated in the rally by cycling, while children performed tricks in the Sports Gymnasium wearing skating shoes. Addressing the ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that the performance of the children in skating was very impressive. He said that the promotion of healthy activities is our top priority. He said that the screen time of the Pakistani nation is the most among all nations. He said that children should be kept busy especially in sports. He said that the promotion of sports is essential for mental and physical health. He said that children who take part in sports are more successful in practical life. He said that sports teach a person discipline. He said that the import bill of medicines in Pakistan is more than 4 billion dollars and by promoting sports, we can reduce diseases. He said that PU New Campus is a very good place for cycling. He said that by promoting cycling, we can play a role in improving the environment. Dr Muhammad Shabbir Sarwar said that PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali is promoting sports. He said that organizing such events motivates athletes.
